The goal of fire prevention is to educate the public to take precautions to prevent potentially harmful fires, and be educated about surviving them. Fire prevention is the Fire Departments first line of defense in reducing and preventing fires emergencies and the damage caused by them.

Fire prevention is not limited to education of the public. It also entails proactive inspections of buildings and potential fire hazards in the community, plans review for new or renovated buildings to ensure compliance with the Ontario Fire Code O.Reg 213/07 and other applicable legislation, the approval and implementation of fire safety plans, the investigation of fires to determine cause and origin and many more aspects of fire and life safety.
