Private sewage systems are a very important piece of infrastructure that requires regular maintenance. Too often homeowners install sewage systems and once in the ground forget about them. Think of your sewage system as a miniature wastewater treatment plant that requires specialized knowledge and ongoing maintenance.

A malfunctioning or failing sewage system can have harmful impacts on public health and on local groundwater and surface water resources. If you suspect your sewage system or someone else’s sewage system is failing please pump out your septic tank and call the Township of Wainfleet for more information at (905) 899-3463.

Fees and Bylaw


All private on-site sewage systems in the Township of Wainfleet are governed by Bylaw No. 001-2012 being a Bylaw for the regulation of private on-site sewage systems in the Township of Wainfleet. Attached to Bylaw No. 001-2012 and forming part of this Bylaw is Appendix “B” – Fee Schedule. Paraphrased from Appendix “B” the following are the sewage system application fees:

  •       New System                                       $1,165.68
  •       Holding Tank                                      $1,165.68
  •       Replacement Septic Tank Only         $   666.10
  •       Leaching Bed Repair Only                 $   638.35

Real Estate Transactions

 
The Township of Wainfleet does not regulate the inspection of sewage systems during any real estate transaction. It is highly recommended that any potential buyer hire a licensed inspector under the Ministry of Affairs and Housing (MMAH) to properly assess the conditions of the sewage system before purchasing the property.

The Township does provide real estate inspections for an additional fee. The inspection fees are as follows:

  • Initial Fee $400.00 + HST
  • Each additional hour or part thereof over 2 hours $120.00 + HST
  • Real Estate inquiries which include existing file searches only $200.00 + HST

NOTE: If an invoice remains unpaid 30 days after the due date, the total invoice fee shall be put on the related property tax account, accompanied by applicable transfer fees.
