Detections of Avian Influenza in Niagara

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is currently responding to cases of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in farmed birds across Canada. This serves as a strong reminder that avian influenza is spreading across the globe, and that anyone with farm animals must practice good biosecurity habits.
HPAI is not known to be a food safety concern. There is no evidence to suggest that eating cooked poultry or eggs could transmit HPAI to humans.

New Council sworn in November 22

Following the 2022 Municipal and School Board Elections, the new 2022-2026 Township Council wwa sworn in at its Inaugural Meeting, held Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.

Restoration and Water Well Decommissioning Grant Programs

The NPCA is seeking applications for its Restoration and Water Well Decommissioning grant programs for projects in 2023. Selected projects will help improve water quality and wildlife habitat as part of ongoing efforts to restore and preserve the Niagara Peninsula watershed’s natural heritage and water resources.
Both grants are available to qualifying private and public landowners with lands located within the NPCA jurisdiction. Learn more about how you can join these collective efforts here.
Wainfleet Election Results Official

The final certification of voting results in the Township of Wainfleet was completed on October 25, 2022 following a special count of twenty-nine ballots that had not been counted on Voting Day.

Proposed Changes to the RR4 and RR27 Intersection

The intersection where Regional Road 4 meets Regional Road 27 (locally known as Wellandport road and River roads) has been a source of concern for many years. The Region has a potential solution for this problem location which you can view here. The proposed change has the red line around it and this is currently the preferred solution, which Niagara Region has not received any objection to, to date.
